This is the title of a letter to the Editor of the New York Times from an Illinois farmer. He says, “Rural farming areas need people. We need farm workers to bring their families and fill our schools and places of worship. We need people not just to work but also to support our small-town economies, attend our events and make themselves at home.”
He adds, “Anti-immigration policy is devastating to America’s small towns. Fear of ‘the other’ is killing us.”
His comments were prompted by a Times article describing the same phenomenon for small dairy farmers in upstate New York.
