New Earthquake Shakes Southeastern Cuba   

On the morning of December 23, a new earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit southeastern Cuba.

There was minor damage to some homes that were affected by previous earthquakes in the area of ​​Providencia, Granma, and landslides were reported in Babujal, Guamá municipality , in Santiago de Cuba.

The head of the National Seismological Service, has warned that “mistakes continue to be made in the construction of works of socioeconomic interest to the country, especially housing. Post-disaster recovery is much more expensive than addressing and reducing vulnerabilities in a timely manner, rather than increasing them with new buildings without steel and cement in the area with the highest seismic risk in Cuba.
